Alan and Alison Brenton

Alan founded Sportive Lakes, with his partner Alison late in 2013 having been inspired by the L’Eroica vintage cycling festival in Italy: http://www.eroicagaiole.com
‘L’Eroica is a truly magical event which is really significant in the life of the host town Gaiole. We immediately saw the potential for a Lake District version, which could showcase our wonderful town and area in a similar way.’

Á L’ancienne (in the old way) was launched as a test event in 2014, it was small but very well received. ‘We knew from the start that it would take a while to grow the event; we don’t have a big sponsor or a huge marketing budget. We also wanted to grow it into more of a festival, so, when we talked to Dave Wood at Ulverston Live Music and Rachel Martin from Vintage Village Hall, we were delighted to discover that they were as excited as we were. Then along came Sophie Bennet with her web and design skills and we were on a roll!

Sportive Lakes also run Lo Scorpione, a tough ride in May and Ladies of the Lake women only cycling in September, all under the banner ‘Great rides, great places, great people, great days’! ‘We specialise in fun, friendly, non-competitive rides…with lots of cake’!

Alan and Alison have three children and live in Ulverston, where Alan is a Management Consultant and Alison an Occupational Therapist.

Rachel Martin

Hello, I’m Rachel Martin and I am organising the vintage marketplace which will run alongside the music and cycling event at Retro Rendezvous.

I moved back to Ulverston in 1998, and have lived in this wonderful town with my partner and 2 children since then. I was brought up near Urswick and lived in this area until I went to follow my passion for dance at The Laban Centre in London. There I gained a degree in dance theatre but also, living close to Greenwich, which is famous for it’s vintage markets, I gained my passion for all things old and interesting.

This passion remained my own until 2011 when I organised and ran my first ‘Vintage Fair’ which was the first in this area. Only meaning for this to be a ‘one-off’ I had not planned others. However, I was overwhelmed by the response and have since worked with The Dock Museum, Lancaster City Council, Dalton Town Council and of course Ulverston Town Council to help organise events and be part of larger festivals.

I am thrilled to be part of the Retro Rendezvous event and hope it will become a fixture in the festival calendar of our beautiful Ulverston Town.

Please contact Rachel at rachmartini@hotmail.com regarding the market and stalls.

Paul Taylor

Founder member of the Furness British Motorcycle Club in 1985 and Chairman for the last 30 years. Has helped run classic motorcycle and car shows around Furness for 20 years.

Many interests including 1950’s motorcycles, maritime history, and love to go cruising for holidays. Married to Pat for 46 years.

Iain and Jill Raven

Iain is a member of several Ulverston festival committees. He’s into many things you will find at Retro Rendezvous, and is our resident pram enthusiast. Originally a motor mechanic working, servicing and restoring many local classic cars (he learned to drive in a 1949 series Land Rover). He would love a classic car of his own, but his wife won’t let him!

When his first daughter was due, his wife, Jill, insisted on having a traditional pram and received no argument from him. He now owns two full sized, and three doll vintage prams, and is always on the look-out for more.
